Synthesis of acitretin. Acitretin is an acidic compound that is in the class of drugs referred to as retinoates. These drugs are used for the prevention and treatment of skin malignancies, especially skin psoriasis. Psoriasis is the abnormal growth of skin cells that causes red, thickened, or scaly skin.
